9th Grade FAQ's!
When does an 8th grader become a 9th grader?
An 8th grader becomes a 9th grader upon completion of the 8th grade school year. Students who take high school level courses over the summer will be given high school credit and a numeric grade will be posted on the transcript. These courses will impact the student's GPA!
My family is transferring from an non-Cobb County middle school, how do we register?
If you are coming from a middle school out of the country, your first step will be to visit the International Welcome Center (IWC). They will assess student for English and native language skills to determine if they require ESOL or IEL services. They evaluate academic records as well. They can be reached at 678-331-3134 to schedule an appointment.
If you are coming from another state, county, or private school, please refer to http://www.cobbk12.org/aboutccsd/enrollment/ for a list of required documents for enrollment. Once documentation is obtained, please call the Counseling Department (770) 578-3200 to make an appointment to proceed with enrollment and scheduling advisement with your child’s counselor.
What should I be doing as a high school parent?
Stay involved! If you are transferring from a non-Cobb county school, make sure you come to the counseling office to get signed up for ParentVue! This gives you access to your student's grades, attendance, tardies and more! If you are from a SHS feeder middle school, your same ParentVue account will work at SHS!
Always feel free to contact your student's teachers with any concerns or questions you have regarding your students education!
